COVID-19 in B.C.: 72 new cases, two deaths

B.C. health authorities reported 72 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 147,418 cases.
Of the new cases, 24 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 29 in the Fraser Health region, four in the Island Health region, 13 in the Interior Health region and two in the Northern Health region.
The latest local data shows that last week (June 13 to 19) there were 17 new cases in Richmond. This is significantly lower than the peak in early April, when 272 cases were recorded in the same time frame.
There are 1,096 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 108 of those people are hospitalized, 37 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 4,703,549 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 1,167,117 of those are second doses.
This means that 77.6 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 76.2 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 26.9 per cent of adults and 25.2 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received their second dose.
Sadly, there were two new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 1,749.
Health authorities reported one new healthcare facility outbreak. Active outbreaks are now ongoing at five long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities—including Richmond’s Minoru Residence—and one acute care facility.
